Week 9 Notices

Thank you to all the parents who have helped out at school this year. We appreciate everything you do as we could not do many of the activities without your help. We wish you all a wonderful summer holiday. To those families who are moving on to new places and schools, we wish you a safe journey and all the best in your new locations.

This will be on Monday at 11.00am. Please note the change of time so that late raffle books can be processed.

Homework:
We have not set homework this week, but many children have not completed the homework from the last two weeks and this can be handed in this week for marking. We will be sending home a letter from Studyladder with the portfolios on Friday, which outlines activities that can be completed over the holidays.

Please keep up reading over the holidays as we find many children slip back in their reading levels over the summer if they have not kept up reading over the six week break.

Reports and Portfolios:
These will both be sent home on Friday this week.

Picnic:
Friday 13th at school. We will begin the day with a whole school special assembly at 9.00am, Room 15 will be presenting this assembly. After assembly, we will begin our middle school picnic and fun day. Our picnic will be at lunch time and all classes will have their own shared lunch. Rooms 14 and 15 will combine for their shared lunch. Children will eat their own morning tea. We have a selection of fun activities chosen by the children which each class will take part in throughout the day. If the weather is wet, we have back up activities to do inside.

Children can wear mufti and will need to bring swim wear, sun top for protection over togs, a towel, a water gun if you have one (named please as many look the same!), hat, sunscreen, morning tea (individual), drink and food for a shared lunch.

Reading!! A reading log will be sent home with your child this week.  They are encouraged to read over the holidays and record what they have read, it also needs to be signed by an adult.  If every student in their class returns their reading log after the holidays, there will be a special reward for that class.
It is so important to keep up with the reading as students can fall behind if they have two weeks of no reading.  Maybe schedule a trip to the town library in the holidays.

Poetry Finals

Today we had the Middle School Poetry Finals.  Well done to all the students who participated in  the finals.  I would not have liked to have been the judge as they were all so good and there was only 1 point difference separating the winners in the Year 4 category.  The children spoke so confidently and they all had memorised their poems.  An amazing effort by all. You should all feel proud.

      My poem

Today Alex wrote a poem about rain. We were learning about imagery writing. Have a read of it!

      Rain

The monstrous clouds take over the sky,
With bowling ball sized hail and rain.
I hear the rain clip clopping into the Olympic sized puddles.
I see nothing because the thick misty fogg,
      Blocks my vision.
I feel cold hard lightning bolts scratching my back,
As I walk through the mist!
      Rain gives me the creeps!

      By Alex.

      Week 10 Notices

The last week of term and look at all the fantastic learning that has been happening!

      Sharing our Learning
Please join us on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30pm in the hall for a performance and visual displays of some of the learning that has been happening in the middle school this term.

Shared lunch on Thursday to farewell Mr James
There will be shared lunch on Thursday for both room 14 and 15. We have an oven to warm food if necessary. We intend to begin the lunch a little earlier, at 12.15pm, so that children can still have their play time. We will not have the pie warmer day this Thursday. We will continue the pie warmer day next term.

      Hit It Physical Education Programme
This programme will be on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Please bring PE uniform.

A number of children have run out of basic equipment such as pencils and pens. If your child needs some of these items, please send them along to school with a new supply at the beginning of next term. Thank you.

      Homework and Home Reading
      Homework is due this Friday.
Home reading is due every Friday and sent home on Mondays. Lately, we have had very few children bringing their reading packs back to school. Please ensure that children do their reading and that the packs with books come back every week. Please send back all home reading this week so that we can make up new packs for over the holidays.

      Thank you Mr James
We wish Mr James and his family all the best in China. We are sure that the children he teaches in China, will enjoy having him as a teacher as much as we have. We thank Mr James for all his hard work, enthusiasm and care that he has given all the children that he has taught.
