On this page you will find the homework for rooms 14 and 15.

Homework is an extension of what is being learnt in class, and is also a way that whanau can become involved in student learning.

Please see Mrs Nieuwboer or Miss Andrews should you have any questions.

Homework Week 7- 8 (Due Friday 6 December)

Religious Education:  We are soon  moving into the time of Advent. Find out what advent means and draw a picture that symbolises advent in your homework book.  Explain what your picture means.

Reading / Writing:
Find an article of interest to you and paste it into your homework book. Write why it is of interest to you.  Remember to expand your ideas (use SEE) to show an in-depth understanding of the topic.

Reading 
Read every night for 20 - 30 minutes. Read your story or article and then and tell someone about your story. Don't forget to add lots of details.

Extra
Figures of speech, see how many different figures of speech you can come across. Ask your family to help. Find some and record them in your homework book.  Write down what they actually mean.

Her head was in the clouds.  -   Means she was day dreaming.

Make a card
Make a card for a friend or family member who show kindness towards others.  Let them know that they are appreciated.  Send or give the card to them.

Mathematics:
Practise your times table.  You need to know you 2's, 5's and 10's.  (You could make flash cards to help you learn your times tables.)  If you already know these go on to your 3's, 4's etc.
Additional tasks have been set on Studyladder (click on here) for those who know their times tables and those who wish to do some extra mathematics.

Spelling:  Practise your words from the essential lists.






Homework Week 5  (Due Friday 22nd November)

Reading / Writing:
Find an article of interest to you about a current event; something that has recently happened or is happening in New Zealand or elsewhere in the world. Read the article and ask your family to help with any words you do not know, or any parts you do not understand. Write a summary of the article in your own words. Remember to expand your ideas (use SEE) to show an in-depth understanding of the topic.

Reading 
Read every night for 20 - 30 minutes. Read your story or article out loud to someone else and write down every word that you do not understand and/or cannot pronounce. Make a list of these words and learn how to pronounce (say) them and the meanings of each word. You might have to ask an adult to help you.

Mathematics:
Children in Miss Andrews' Math Class:   Find multiplication and geometry tasks on Studyladder (click on here) . We will be focusing on geometry this week in class.

Children in Mrs Nieuwboer's Math Class:  See Studyladder (click on here)  for geometry tasks. If you are struggling with multiplication, try those tasks as well.

Spelling:  Practise your words from the essential lists.




Homework Week 4  (Due Friday 8 November)

RE  Choose a Saint that you admire or maybe who you are named after.  Research their life and the reason why they became a Saint.  Present your learning on a poster or create it on the computer and print it out at home.  Your work will be displayed in class.

Reading Read every night for 20 - 30 minutes. Write one book review each week based on the stories, articles and or chapter books you have been reading.

Mathematics:
Children in Miss Andrews' Math Class:   Practise your basic facts to 20 and learn them off by heart.  (See how fast your response can be) e.g  3+7=10, 17+3=20 etc.

Children in Mrs Nieuwboer's Math Class:  See Studyladder (click on here)  for tasks set for you.  Tasks will  be a combination of addition and subtraction with double digits, just as we have been doing in class.

Spelling:  Practise your words from the essential lists.  You will be buddy tested on Thursday and teacher tested on Friday.  Get a family member to test you on your words that you are learning for the week.

Writing:  Write an imaginative story about anything you like.  The audience will be your class.  Don't forget to use correct punctuation and descriptive language e.g as cold as ice or as fast as lighting.








Homework Week 1  (Due Friday 25th October)

TOPIC  Look around your house for symbols and draw the symbol and write what it means.
You might find them on your washing machine, in the bathroom, even in the kitchen.

Reading Read every night for 20 minutes and record what you have read in your homework book.

Mathematics: Practise your 2's, 5's and 10 times tables.  You should know these off by heart.   You need to be able to instantly recall them, you might even want to make up your own song/chant to help you to remember them. If you can already do this, move onto your 3's, 4's and 6's.

Spelling:  Practise your words from the essential lists. The highlighted words are the ones you know, learn the ones that are not highlighted. You will be buddy tested on Thursdays and tested on Fridays.  Get a family member to test you on your words.


Homework Week 9  (Due Friday September 27th)

Only one week to go before the holidays. The homework set will be only for this week. Please hand in your homework, Home Reading and any other reading books on Friday.

Reading
Maunganui, Tarawera, Ruapehu and Ngongotaha: Read for at least 20 minutes every night. Keep a list of stories or articles that you have read. Tell a family member about what you are reading.

Taranaki, Tongariro and Aoraki: You all have taken 2 - 3 Connected Journals home last week. Read through all of them and pick one story and one article that you enjoyed most. Write a book review on both of them. Add paragraphs starting 'I think...' and another 'I wonder...'

Mathematics: A number of children are still struggling to tell the time using an analogue clock. Therefore, activities around telling the time have been added to Studyladder (click on here)  this week. The activities start at a lower level and eventually become more challenging. If you are able to tell the time, try some of the more challenging activities.

Spelling: Test yourself using the words of the Essential Word Lists found when you click on the tab on the home page of this blog. Teachers will be testing you on these lists next week and in Term 4.


Homework Weeks 7 and 8  (Due Friday September 20th).
POETRY CLASS ELIMINATIONS WILL BEGIN WEEK 7,  PRACTISE YOUR POEMS REMEMBERING TO SPEAK CLEARLY AND SLOWLY.!!!!!!
1. Read every night for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Maunganui,  Tarawera and Ruapehu reading groups are to read a story every night and retell in detail to an adult or family member.

Ngongotaha, Taranaki, Tongariro, Aoraki reading groups to read a story from school or one you have at home, write a summary of the story.  Design a new title cover for the story.

2. All groups need to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables off by heart then learn all the others up to 12 x12.

Maths Challenge:  You are organising a birthday party for 10 eight year olds.  You need to plan a menu and work out the cost. You have a budget of $80.00. Use the junk mail brochures from various supermarkets like New World, Countdown, and Pak'n'Save to find out what you can buy and the cost of all the items.  In your homework book make a list of all the items and the costs, including the total price.

Extra Challenge:
Use the information you have gathered to plan a menu for 50 children.  Show how you work out your problem using multiplication.

4. Spelling: Learn your group spelling words. If know how to spell your list, move onto the next one. Extra for experts: break your words into the correct syllables.

Homework Weeks 5 and 6 (Due Friday September 6th).
1. Read every night for a minimum of 20 minutes.

2. We have been learning about 'Church' and how we should try to live our lives more like Jesus did. We also know that  the disciples continued to spread the Word of God. Today, we can be like Jesus and the disciples by doing good things for others. Choose four tasks over the next two weeks, to show that you care for others. Choose tasks that you normally don't do so that you have to think beyond the chores that you have to do. Here are some ideas:
  • fold washing
  • visit an elderly neighbour
  • weed the garden
  • clean your brother or sister's bedroom
  • vacuum
  • do the dishes

When you have completed each task, write a paragraph explaining what you did, how it made you feel and how it made others feel.

3. Studyladder has been updated. Have a go at the set tasks.  PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE SOME COMPLICATIONS WITH STUDYLADDER THIS WEEK, TASK HAVE BEEN SET BUT CHILDREN ARE NOT ALWAYS ABLE TO SEE SET TASKS AT ONE TIME. YOU CAN BYPASS THIS PROBLEM BY CLICKING ON SUBJECT ONCE YOUR CHILD HAS LOGGED IN, THEN CLICK ON FINANCIAL LITERACY AND THEN CLICK ON POCKET MONEY AND ANY OTHER TASK INVOLVING MONEY.

2. Think about what you would like to be when you grow up. What enterprising values and skills do you need? List them in your homework book (You should be able to think of at least four). Explain why you would need each one.

3. What do yo know about sustainability? Share what you have learnt this term, think about our key questions: Am I a caretaker of creation? What are sustainable practices? What if we are unsustainable?
Be as creative as you want to share your learning - poster, model, written/typed, video, photos...
4. It is Maori language week from July 1 - July 7. Take this quiz to see how much you know.

Homework Weeks 5 and 6 (Due 14 June)

We have been learning about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit - joy, love, patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, generosity, self-control and respectfulness. Choose two from the list and draw a picture or take a photo of yourself carrying out the values. Write a paragraph explaining which Fruits of the Holy Spirit you are showing.

Mathematics: New tasks have been set on Study Ladder. Continue to learn your times tables, especially the 2, 5 and 10 x tables off by heart. Make a connection between the 2 x tables and doubles (2x4 as 4+4) and counting in 5s for the 5 x tables (4x5 as 5+5+5+5).

Reading: Read every night. Write a book review on one of the books that you have read. Include the title, author, a brief description about the story, and rate the story out of 5 (1 is the lowest score and 5 is the highest score).

Spelling: Learn the group of words that you have been given. If you know all the words in one group, move up to the next group. For those on group 3, make sure that you can spell all the words in all groups.


Homework Weeks 3 and 4 (Due Thursday 30 May)

Create a piece of artwork made from materials that can be recycled (milk bottles, coke and lemonade bottles, boxes, newspaper etc). Your artwork must show how to care for our environment in some way. We will display your work in class.

Check out some ideas here - you could also look in books from the library on use the internet to research.


Read for at least 20 minutes every night. Write a summary of one book that you have read.

Mathematics: Learn your 2, 5 and 10 times tables off by heart. Get a family member to test you at regular times over the next two weeks. Tasks have also been set on Study Ladder.

Spelling lists: Children will be told which list they need to learn on Monday.
Get someone to test you once you've learned these words. You can also learn words from your essential word list.








R14/15 Homework   Term 2 (Due Friday 17 May)



Are you a 'Caretaker of God's creation? List ways you and your family help look after God's creation. Use bullet points to make your list in your homework book.

Show someone at home this video to help you start caring for God's creation if you aren't already.





1. Little words in BIG words. How many little words can you find in SUSTAINABILITY? List them in your homework book and we'll see who can get the most.



2. Read every night for at least 20mins. Get someone at home to ask you questions about the book you are reading.



3. Learn the spelling words on the list that you took home this week. These words are specifically for you and have been taken from the misspelt words in your writing book. Please make sure that you put the time and effort into learning them.



4. Mathematics: There are tasks set on Study Ladder. Complete as many as you can.



5. Visit www.freerice.com. On the home page, click on Subjects and then choose which subject you would like. You do not need to sign up unless you want to. Ask an adult before you sign up to anything. You can do the maths and vocabulary activities. This is a free website that donates rice to the poor. Every time you get an answer correct, a grain of rice goes into the bowl.















R14/15 Homework Week 8 and 9 Term 1 (Due Thursday 28 March)

1. Read to someone every night for at least 20mins.



2. Write a letter to Pope Francis 1. Tell him all about our school, and how we show catholic character at school. Write or type your letter and bring it to school by the 28th of March. We will send all completed letters to the Vatican in Rome. You never know, we might get a reply!



3. Mathematics: We have been doing statistics in class last week, making tally charts and graphing the results. You are now going to survey your family and friends. Choose one topic to survey (favourite take-away, TV programme, sport etc). Create a tally chart and complete the survey (Remember to list 4 - 5 options that people can choose from). Use the results of the tally chart to make a graph. This can all be completed in your homework book.



4. Lent: Think about the promise you made at the beginning of Lent. Try to do something extra special for a family member or a friend.



5. Life Education: Tell your family about what you have been learning in the Life Education classroom.



6. Spelling: You will all receive a new list of spelling words that you spelt incorrectly in your writing over the last two weeks. Make sure that you learn to spell these words as well as extra words from the Essential Word lists.

R14/15 Homework Week 6 Term 1 (Due Friday 15 March)
1. Read to someone every night for at least 20mins.


2. Remember it is World Literacy day on Monday 4th March, World Maths day on Tuesday 5th March and World Science day on Wednesday 6th March , log on and get as many points as you can.


3 Get an adult to help you read this: List the different jobs the ants have (e.g. workers) in your homework book and write a brief explanation of what they do to help the ant colony.


4. We have been learning how to use joining words in our writing. Practice on this website.


5. Add to this padlet to tell everyone about your favourite part of this year's gala.

 MAKE SURE YOU READ POSTS FROM OTHERS!!!





6. In your homework book there is a list of words misspelt from your writing book. Learn these as well as some from the essential spelling list.



7.  Have you seen the other class blogs? Click here to have a look and leave them a comment.

3. Email our blog to a relative or friend so they can see what we have been doing in class.
4. Watch this clip from Youtube and record five interesting facts about a bee community in your homework book.

 ** Make sure you use a blue pen and write neatly. Can you use the word 'because' to help explain something of interest about bees?

**Remember to re-read what you write so that you can check if it makes sense. Get someone at home to also read it.  Due in week 5



5. Have a look at our Library Lady's fantastic blog, it might help you choose what you want to read when we go to the library on Thursday.



6. Find a calendar at home and put a circle around February 28th - Our Gala day!



7. Make sure you learn these words which are all linked to our concept "Communities."



8. All children will be getting an essential word list in their homework books on Monday 18th February. Highlight as you learn to spell each word.
